Manners Matter and Children Learn by Example:-On June 13, Saturday All of our Mentors are wonderful, kind, and gracious people, it is such a pleasure to spend time with all of you. When adults model gratitude and appreciation, children learn. It is important that children learn basic social skills as they mature. It is good to give children limits and behavioral expectations when they are away from home. When children develop good social skills they have higher self-esteem, self-worth, and will become more successful and happier in life. At school, we have rules and set limits: "No hoods covering your head". At classroom parties the children may take one of everything so there is enough to go around and there are no seconds unless there is enough for everyone." It is important to be fair and have policies, so that children may develop trust. When someone says "Hello" to you it is polite to say "Hello" back. When the children go through their training with us we explain to them that United We Mentor has the same rules and expectations as their schools. When adults set high and reachable expectations, children will rise to the occasion.
All of our Mentors are amazing people. All of you have worked very patiently to help your mentees raise themselves to a higher level. Keep it up, you are doing a great job!!!! Karen and I can see the transformation in the children and it is wonderful!!!! We see happy faces, improved report cards, and friendships growing!
