Sat-April 24-Visit Blum Ranch and see the Lilacs no entrance fee--31880 Alisso Canyon Rd., 8 am to 6 pm daily: For details call 661-947-2796. They sell: walnuts, almonds, cut lilacs, dried pears, honey and peach jam.

Sat-April 24-Visit the Poppy Reserve this year they look great!!!!! Location: The Reserve is located 15 miles west of Lancaster at 15101 Lancaster Road. From Highway 14: Take the Avenue I exit and head west 15 miles. Avenue I becomes Lancaster Road.

Saturday- May 1, 2010-Donate your old items-Spring Cleaning-UWM fundraiser
Between 10 am and 2 pm-Karen and Char will be at the Clear Channel-Jet Hawks stadium (off Ave I & HWY. 14) with a large truck from "New Hope for Troubled Lives" to receive donated items. Please donate: clothing, jewelry, all baby items, toys, electronics, furniture, small appliances, linens, etc. If you aren't available May 1st, call Karen to schedule a drop off appointment time. 661-942-4719 X 309. If your student doesn't want to participate they can attend, watch, clap, and cheer!!!! Prepare your mentee for a great night-Each student gets to use the microphone to tell us about their accomplishments during the 2009-10 school year. For example: An award from school, talent, sports, art, writing project, singing, dancing, etc. There will also be live entertainment. Please eat dinner before you arrive. Refreshments will be served at the completion of the evening. All participants must RSVP so we can put you on the agenda. 661-942-4719 x 309.

Thurs-May 13 (5 pm to 8 pm) and Friday-May 14 (4 pm to 7 pm) will be our May mentor training. Please tell a friend!!!! We need more mentors.

June Event

Learning to Hip-hop and Krump with Lil Tommy The Clown (See attachment or google him for more info.) He’s been in movies and you can find him on Facebook, Bebo and You Tube. He has a great story and will do a group hip-hop lesson for us. Please have your mentees wear sweats or loose clothing and tennis shoes and be prepared to DANCE ! Mentors are welcome to join in also.

Go to orchards: Pick cherries in Leona Valley (search the internet there are alot of them) I go to organic farms or farms that do not use pesticides. Littlerock is known as the "Fruit Basket of the AV" peaches, pears and nectarines are available.

Farmers Markets-AV Winery (20th St. West and M) Saturdays from 9 am to 12 noon and Four Points Swap Meet (cross streets are Pearblossom Hwy and 47th St E, which turns into Palmdale Blvd.)Farmers Market located in the parking lot.

Habitat for Humanity-For more information please call 818-884-8808. They will be building 24 homes in the AV.

Thurs-June 24 (5 pm -8 pm)and Friday-June 25 (4 pm to 7 pm) will be our June mentor training-please tell everyone!

Community Event: Thursday Night on the Square- 9th St. East (Between Q 9 & Q 10) July 1st-August 19th--5:30 pm to 9:00 pm-- Free Events available plus Farmer's Market etc., for more information call: 661-267-5611.

July Event
Friday-July 16-Family BBQ- For our Mentors, Mentees, Parents, and Siblings-a family event. (Please do not bring your friends and neighbors)
5:30 pm the food will be ready to eat-we'll socialize and play until 7:30 pm

Major cross streets are Ave L and 10th St. West-behind the Costco Store.

Mark Chapa and friends are donating the burgers, hot dogs, condiments, drinks, and paper products. UWM participants will donate side dishes and desserts.

Our Mentors are welcome to volunteer to create some fun games for us to play, we will have a water balloon toss, soccer balls, basketballs, Frisbees, etc. If you would like to organize a game call Char at 661-942-4719 X 322.

We are requied to offer additional training for Caregiver's Choice mentors and mentees (students). We offer fun activites instead of sitting behind a table in our conference room. If you're unable to attend the fun activities you will be required to come and attend a one-on-one training with Karen or Char in the conference room.
